“You are My friends if you do what I command you.” -John 15:14
When we accept the fact that WE are the sinners and acknowledge what Jesus did for us; when we ask for forgiveness and allow Jesus to teach us how to love like He does; then we are His friends.
As stated in yesterday’s verse, Jesus commands us to love one another like He has loved us. Think about the implications of that. He loved us to death. How many people in our lives do we love enough to be willing to die for them? Our spouse? Our children? Maybe our best friend? Jesus didn’t pick and choose. He loved everyone that much. Even if we’re not called to actually give our life, we are called to do other things that are a sacrifice, and we are called to love one another enough to be WILLING to sacrifice our lives. If you think about it, really stepping out to do something for someone in need is a sacrifice of your life of sorts. When your own life is of little consequence to you in order to help someone else, that is the love of Christ.
Jesus prioritized the lives of others above His own. Our question to ourselves, the friends of Jesus, should be; “Do we do the same?”
