Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” -1 John 4:7
Here we are again at the whole “knowing God and loving” thing. God refers to this more than once in His Word because it’s important. It’s a wonderful cycle. God loves us, we love Him, and we’re so full of love that it can’t help but spill over onto others. Love, love, love . . . all you need is love. More than words to a song, it’s the truth. When we are focused on God – on knowing Him and loving Him – everything else falls into place. God is love, and love is all we really need.
”Let us love one another”. How much better is life when we exhibit love toward one another rather than animosity? Do you remember the last time you committed a random act of kindness? Do you remember how good it felt to unconditionally bless someone? Love in action is what that is. It is also demonstrating that you know God, because unconditional love only comes from Him.
We can all behave kindly and demonstrate love to others. More times than not though, there’s a motive behind it – something that we aim to get out of it. The only way to know how to truly love is to truly know God. Love from any other source is conditional or somehow self-gratifying. What is the source of your love?
