“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” -Romans 8:38-39

This is an amazing statement, and I see two wonderful truths here:
1.) God’s love for us is so strong that there is NO person or thing that can take it from us or separate us from it in any way. Once God loves you, He loves you . . . period. What that says is that no matter how you mess up or don’t do things “perfectly”, He still loves you. He doesn’t give up on you and His love for you is not performance based (as it is with so many humans).
2.) I see that God’s love is found in Christ Jesus. Sin separates us from God, but Jesus Christ bridges the gap. Jesus as your Lord and the love of God are a package deal. Even if we turn our backs on God and consciously choose a lifestyle of sin, God still loves us.
Herein lies a paradox that our brains have trouble grasping. God is love and God is judge. God, in His perfect love, must judge sin. God will discipline us, just as any good parent would discipline their child, and He disciplines us in love. “For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.”
Proverbs 3:12 NASB
God is our Heavenly Father. He wants to raise us up to be like Christ – to emulate the ways of Christ. In His righteousness and His justice, He must uphold the Word He has so clearly communicated to us in the Bible. His justice, His blessings, all stem from His perfect and unshakeable love that He so lavishly demonstrated in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
