My devotional this morning said something interesting. “The people of God are agents of peace! Bringing peace into every situation, God’s friends can be trusted to act in the best interest of others no matter what it costs them personally” – Daily in His Presence devotional.
If that were truly the case, what a world this would be! Can you imagine? Peace instead of sarcasm, spite, or vengeance. Peace instead of pridefulness. Instead of reacting with violence we responded with peace. It’s an amazing concept! I know there are people out there who are like this. I am married to one of them. I, on the other hand, am very Irish and sometimes go looking for a fight.
That’s the flesh, that part of me that hankers for a good fight sometimes. The flesh is prideful, spiteful, and vengeful. The flesh reacts whereas the Spirit responds. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. The fruit of the flesh is all the opposites of those. As Christians, we’re called to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Thankfully, God gave us His Holy Spirit to help us do that.
Let’s challenge ourselves to rely more on that Helper and truly be agents of peace! I would love to see how it could change our individual worlds and consequently, the world as a whole.
